Opt-in and Consent

WhatsApp is a private space. Meta's rules, Indian law, and ours all say the same thing: only message people who agreed to hear from you.

What counts as permission

The person must have agreed to receive WhatsApp messages from your business, and it must have been clear that it was your business they were agreeing to.

Acceptable:

  • a tick box on your website or order form
  • a written form in your shop or office
  • the customer messaging you first
  • a sign-up, missed call or QR code that says WhatsApp messages will follow and what they will be about

Not acceptable:

  • a purchased list
  • numbers collected from anywhere without asking
  • a number given for one purpose and used for another
  • permission collected by one business and used by another

What we store

GetReply records how and when each contact gave permission, so you can show it if it is ever questioned. Under Indian data law, the business sending the messages is responsible for that permission.

Stopping messages

Anyone can reply STOP to a marketing message and they are removed automatically. Order updates, appointment reminders and one-time codes can still reach them, as WhatsApp's rules allow.

If the rules are broken

Messaging people who did not agree gets the number blocked by Meta, and it happens fast. We may pause an account that is sending to people who did not opt in, to protect the number and the platform.

Your responsibility

By uploading contacts to GetReply you confirm that each one agreed to receive messages from your business, and that you will honour a request to stop.
